Contract & Health Guarantee
Health Guarantee
Breeder certifies this puppy has had all age-appropriate vaccinations, given by a licensed veterinarian, to the date buyer receives the puppy. Breeder certifies the puppy has had deworming every two weeks, beginning at two weeks of age. Vet records are attached to this contract. Buyer must continue vaccinations until the puppy is fully vaccinated, at buyer’s expense.
Buyer agrees to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian, at buyer’s expense, within THREE business days from the date of possession, or the health guarantee is void. If the veterinarian does not give the puppy a clean bill of health, the buyer must notify the breeder IMMEDIATELY. Breeder reserves the right to have the dog reexamined by a veterinarian of breeder’s choice, at breeder’s expense. Buyer MUST keep a copy of the veterinary record/clean bill of health for the health guarantee. Any condition that is minor or correctable (i.e. internal parasites) may not be covered. Any condition that will go away as puppy ages will not be covered. Breeder DOES NOT accept any responsibility for any harm that comes to puppy once in possession of the buyer such as accidents, heat related conditions, theft, etc. Breeder does not accept responsibility for contagious diseases diagnosed more than SEVEN days after the date of possession.
Breeder guarantees no genetic or congenital health issues in the puppy for TWO YEARS following the puppy’s birthdate. IF puppy is found to have a genetic or congenital health condition, breeder reserves the right to have the puppy reevaluated by a veterinarian of breeder’s choice, at breeder’s expense. If the puppy dies before breeder can have the puppy reevaluated, BUYER must submit the puppy to a licensed veterinarian for necropsy, at buyer’s expense. IF necropsy determines the puppy died from a GENETIC or CONGENITAL health condition, breeder will reimburse buyer for the cost of the necropsy, as well as replace the puppy or refund the total purchase cost of the puppy. Buyer must submit proof of necropsy findings to breeder. Necropsy report must have matching microchip number to that listed in this contract.
HIPS AND ELBOWS: Breeder guarantees puppy will not produce crippling hip or elbow dysplasia on or before the puppy’s second birthday (24 month guarantee). In the event the puppy develops crippling hip or elbow dysplasia at or before 24 months, breeder will offer a full refund of the purchase price outlined in this contract, or a puppy from a future litter of equal or greater value. Breeder reserves the right to examine x-rays and vet report before determining a refund or replacement. X-rays and vet report must have the matching microchip numbers to the one stated in this contract. Chip number and placement are verified with buyer before puppy is handed over. Breeder has the right to request a second opinion, at breeder’s vet of choice and at breeder’s expense. If puppy is found to be in poor body condition, or fed an inappropriate diet, the hip and elbow guarantee will be voided. Breeder has the right to request updated pictures or current video at any given time. If buyer fails to provide an updated picture or video within 48 hours, breeder has the right to repossess the puppy, at no refund to the buyer.
Buyer agrees to take good care of the puppy. This includes, but not limited to, a quality large breed puppy food (or diet recommended by a veterinarian nutritionist), such as Diamond Naturals or Purina, until AT LEAST one year of age, but recommended until two years old, fresh water, proper socialization, continuing vet care (fecal samples, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, age-appropriate vaccinations including annual rabies, etc.), proper housing, etc. If the puppy is found to be living on a chain or tether for extended periods of time, breeder has the right to repossess the puppy, at no refund to the buyer. NOTE: Feeding a grain free diet, unless directed by a vet, will void the health guarantee. Grain free diets are linked to dilated cardio myopathy due to the high legume content that replaces the grain. Dogs are omnivorous and need grains in their diet. If the puppy will be left outside unsupervised, it is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure the outdoor area is safe and secure for the puppy and surrounding inhabitants. Buyer must not allow puppy to run at large and become a nuisance to others. Buyer must not neglect or abuse the puppy. If buyer violates any of these conditions, breeder has the right to repossess the puppy, at buyer’s expense, with no refund of puppy purchase price to the buyer. The death, injury, or loss of the puppy due to theft, carelessness, recklessness, abuse, neglect, heat stroke, or accident will NOT entitle buyer to any compensation from breeder.
Buyer will not alter the puppy until AT LEAST two years of age, UNLESS deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian. Dogs’ growth plates do not close fully until they are two years old, and hormones do not fully regulate until growth plates are closed.
Picking up Your Puppy
Your puppy has been vaccinated with at least one round of vaccines, by a licensed vet. Your puppy has also been given at least 3 rounds of liquid oral dewormer, dosed by weight, at 2, 4, and 6 weeks. Each puppy will also come with an oral flea/tick/heartworm prevention chew that will act as the 4th round of dewormer. Unless your puppy is older than 9 weeks at pickup, it is your responsibility to give this 4th dose and maintain monthly dosage. Pick-up date is made clear prior to deposits being placed. If you placed a deposit, your puppy is REQUIRED to be picked up no later than 5 days after they turn 8 weeks old, unless communicated and agreed upon PRIOR to the deposit being placed. If you do not pick up your puppy by 8 weeks and 5 days old, a “boarding” charge of $25 per day, up to 10 weeks old. If puppy is not picked up by 10 weeks old, the deposit is forfeit and the puppy will be placed with another family. If puppy is still with breeder at 9 weeks old, breeder will take the puppy to the vet for the second round of vaccines. The cost of the visit will be added to the total amount due at pickup.
Rehoming/Repossessing
In the event buyer can no longer keep the puppy for any reason, buyer is to return the puppy to breeder. Breeder will not refund the purchase price of the puppy for any reason other than the health guarantee. If buyer rehomes the puppy to anyone other than the breeder (without breeder permission), breeder reserves the right to collect any fees associated with rehoming the puppy, as well as any fees associated with locating and retrieving the puppy. If the buyer lives more than 5 hours from the breeder’s address and is not willing to meet at a location within 5 hours of the breeder’s address, transport back to the breeder is at BUYER’S EXPENSE. If the puppy has to be transported back to the breeder upon repossession, breeder retains the right to seek compensation for transport from the buyer.
Registration & Breeding
Puppies are sold on limited AKC, which is prepaid by the breeder and filled out before puppy is handed over, with the option to change to full AKC if the puppy passes hips/elbows via PennHip, OFA, or SV, and temperament testing, and buyer pays the AKC fee for the conversion (this is set by AKC. Breeder has zero control over this fee). Buyer agrees to never breed puppy on limited AKC, and to have puppy altered at two years of age, unless medically necessary to keep intact or alter sooner. Buyer will make all efforts to prevent accidental breeding and will immediately alter the puppy if she becomes bred. If buyer fails to prevent breeding and does not spay the puppy, breeder is entitled to all fees collected for puppies, minus vet costs for puppies, and has the right to repossess the puppy due to negligence.
If the puppy is changed to FULL AKC registration, buyer agrees to only breed ethically and to dogs with equal or better pedigrees, appropriate health testing, and temperament testing. Buyer will NOT breed the puppy before two years of age and appropriate testing. If buyer violates these conditions, breeder has the right to revoke ownership of puppy and repossess puppy, with no refund to buyer.
